Valse Petite for Alto Saxophone and Piano
About Valse Petite for Alto Saxophone and Piano
Level: Intermediate to advanced. 6-7th grade AMEB Exam standard.
A petite little waltz in the style of the great American saxophonist and composer, Rudy Weidoft‘s “Valse Vanite” and British saxophone virtuoso Freddy Gardner’s style of playing.
Although not advanced in difficulty level, this piece does nonetheless demand solid and fluent technique and tonal control throughout.
The piece begins with a short piano introduction before the alto saxophone enters with the gentle, lilting main theme.
The next section launches into triplet laced passages that feature leaps and arpeggio figures.
The main theme returns once more before leading to a new section featuring an active theme adorned with flourishes and trills.
The main theme then returns for the final time and brings the work to an end via the use of a diminished arpeggio, in much the same manner as the Weidoft “Valse Vanite” piece.
This piece is ideal for concerts, recitals, and music exams.
Includes performance and backing tracks.
