On This Night for Tenor Sax and Piano
On this night was composed for Liz Firth as a wedding present by Andy Firth in 1995.
The piece was written in a motel room whilst Andy was recording his album “Throughout Time” with pianist, Jonathan Wade.
Andy and Jonathan recorded the song the next day and it appears on this album.
About the Piece
Originally composed for the clarinet, this arrangement for alto sax is in the style of an instrumental romantic pop ballad featuring a simple melody throughout.
The song features grace note embellishments sprinkled throughout the melody so as to give it more of a contemporary sound and feel.
Chord changes have been added to the written piano accompaniment in case other chordal instruments would like to play along with the soloist.
Level: Intermediate
Range: “C#1” to “E3”.
