Happy Birthday Through the Years
Happy Birthday to You was written by two American sisters Patty and Mildred Hill.
Warner/Chappell claimed that they owned the copyright to the tune in 1988 after acquiring from the Summy Company for 25 million US dollars.
In 2015 A US federal judge declared that the Warner/Chappell claim of copyright was false as it applied only to a single piano arrangement of the song that did not even include the melody or lyrics.
In 2016 Warner/Chappell was forced to pay 14 Million US dollars in a law suit and the Federal US court declared the song to be in the public domain.
This arrangement by Andy Firth takes the clarinet ensemble on a journey through various popular musical styles: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Viennese Waltz, Ragtime, Swing and finally Rock ’n Roll. This arrangement is certain to be a popular favourite with audiences and players alike.
