Clarinet Quartet in F Major Op.415
About “Clarinet Quartet in F Major Op.415″(Advanced)
This work is composed specifically for a clarinet quartet (S,S,S,B) in three contrasting movements.
The Movements
Movement 1:
A lively and energetic movement with a light-hearted theme that develops and transforms as the movement progresses.
This movement is somewhat fugal in style and offers both technical challenge and spirited fun for both players and listeners.
Movement 2:
A sombre funeral march with a doloroso melody in the 1st clarinet part accompanied by moving arpeggios and sporadic runs from the bass clarinet.
This movement features a brief, technically challenging written cadenza played by the 1st clarinet player.
Movement 3: “March of the Sugar Ants”
A lively, fun march-styled movement based on the composer watching a hoard of little black sugar ants trying to steal sugar from a container.
The imagery is clear and descriptive through the use of a march-like theme accompanied by the offbeat accompaniment and fast-moving ensemble passages.
