Boppin’ with Benny
Boppin’ with Benny
Boppin’ with Benny is a tribute to the great Jazz clarinetist any Goodman. The piece features a lively and catchy melody played by The saxophone team in closed position harmony with the clarinet playing the lead.
The brass play the bridge section interspersed by short saxophone interjections which then leads to a written (or improvised) clarinet solo.
The piano takes us solo for the second bridge section which then leads to a short trumpet 2 solo and a further clarinet solo.
The piece concludes via a tone higher modulation, and a full ensemble shout chorus.
Although not a particularly technically challenging arrangement, it does require that the ensemble be versed and skilled in section balance, clean articulations and stylistic awareness of the music of the swing Era.
