ARIA & ROCK for Concert Flute

Aria & Rock is work that celebrates a classical-styled theme that gradually morphs through several styles and phases before reaching a powerful and energetic rock variation based on the theme.

The main theme is simple and understated and yet peppered with flashes of contemporary harmonic concepts and phrases.

It is never fully Classical, Latin or Jazz in style for any significant amount of time.

The Structure

The first section begins with the theme stated over a lightly syncopated and rippling accompaniment as the melody gently flows and develops.

The piano takes over the role of melody whilst the soloist interjects with cascading arpeggios that outline the harmony.

On re-entering, the soloist gradually lifts the drama and excitement levels of the theme before once again handing the melody over to the piano once more.

This passage leads in to the first variation in a rock style.

The soloist and piano take turns at repeating phrases back and forth before launching into a more solid rock feel.

The next section turns up the heat and the Latin Rock inspired solo part gets busier and the rock feel gets heavier.

The final variation of the rock styled feel is a double time heavy rock rock feel whilst the soloist lets loose on a virtuoso solo.

section. This section calms down and gradually flows back into the main theme of the aria which leads to the end of the work.

Aria & Rock was designed to develop and display the soloist’s ability to play in several styles, mainly, Classical, Latin and Rock.

This product comes with sheet music for the soloist, piano part as well as performance and backing tracks with chamber orchestra and rock band.
