About “Allegro in the Spirit of WA Mozart” (Advanced-Level)
This work is composed specifically for Bb clarinet trio (S,S,S,) in one movement.
About the Work
The title of this work merely suggests that the work has a similar spirit and style as that of Mozart and does not intend to suggest that the work is
by Mozart or of the same level of brilliance.
This work is based on a simple, classic Mozartian-type them with Alberti bass accompaniment.
As is typical of the music of the classical period, the primary theme leads to a dominant-oriented theme before moving to the sub-dominant theme.
The primary theme then returns in the minor theme before being chopped into small morsels and passed through the ensemble.
A series of fast-moving scale-based passages modulate and eventually bring the work to its primary tonic key and the inevitable recapitulation.
A short coda section brings the work to a nice and tidy conclusion.
About the Work
The level is technically advanced with a range of Low “E1” to “A4” (with optional 8basso) with the clarinet 1 part bearing most of the brunt of the higher notes.
All parts encounter running semi-quavers and scale-based passages as the work progresses and players will need to be technically proficient.
Duration: The duration of the work is circa 5 minutes.
