Description
GRIEG’S GROOVE-Arranged by Andy Firth
About Grieg’s Groove
A funky treatment of the first movement from “Grieg’s piano concerto in A minor”.
The opening features a cleverly scored full band adaption of the original iconic Grieg introduction.
The trumpet section then enters with the first theme punctuated by saxes and trombones.
The saxes then complete the theme before the motive from the introduction returns.
This leads to a written tenor saxophone solo with chord changes supplied in case the soloist wants to improvise.
A short ensemble transition based on the original Grieg motive brings the arrangement back to the first theme once more.
A short coda based on the original Grieg work’s finale brings the arrangement to a dramatic close.
Level: Advanced level with a few quick-running semi-quaver lines in the saxes in some sections.
Technical and Ranges: Alto 1: High “F#” Tpt 1: D above stave (only once).
Trombone 1: A above stave. 4th Trombone: Bass but has been converted for tenor trombone.
Moderate-Advanced technical and rhythmic difficulty.
Medium-paced semi-quaver lines occasionally.
Soloists: Written: Tenor 1 and Guitar but can be opened for other soloists
This arrangement is sure to be both a fun challenge for the players and an audience favorite!
