Hot Blooded! Is an energetic, funk-styled chart that features a tight, punchy melody that uses cross-rhythms and a lively moving bass line to propel it along.
Hot Blooded! has been scored in the style and spirit of the music of the iconic American funk ensemble, “Tower of Power”. It features a written or improvised tenor sax 1 solo and a syncopated bass figure in unison with the electric bass.
This arrangement requires a tight, well-balanced and energetic ensemble. The brass figures are punchy, syncopated and must be performed with accuracy and precision.
The sax team is required to play rhythmically complex figures in unison, sometimes an octave apart so it is vital that skilled intonation be practiced and applied during these sections.
The rhythm section is tightly scored but allows that players room to add their own style and flavour to the groove.
