Siciliano for Flute or Oboe & Piano
About Siciliano for Flute or Oboe & Piano
Level: Intermediate Level. 5th-grade Exam standard.
A simple little piece in the style of the great J.S Bach’s 2nd movement to the Flute Sonata BWV 1031 for flute and harpsichord.
The piece is typical of a Baroque-styled Siciliano or Sicilienne in that it is set in a six-eight time-feel, moderately slow with a slight feeling of melancholy and reverie.
The work features three distinct sections and themes with a modulation up a minor third in the middle section before returning to the tonic key once again.
This arrangement of “Siciliano” works well for both flute and oboe soloists.
This piece is ideal for concerts, recitals, and music exams and has been designed to fit well under the fingers of soloists and pianists alike.
“Siciliano” is dedicated to my friend and oboe virtuoso, David Nuttall. David performed an earlier version of this work in 2020 when he was the principal oboist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The video link to his excellent performance can be found below.
Includes soloist part, piano part, performance and backing tracks.
